What We Offer
We welcome students and educators to Canberra Theatre Centre!
Canberra Theatre Centre (CTC) warmly welcomes students and educators to experience the magic of live theatre.
Each year, our Education Season brings together an inspiring mix of performances, workshops, and learning opportunities for students of all ages – from early learning through to tertiary.
Led by a team of experienced teachers, technicians and theatre professionals, our Education Season is designed to spark imagination, encourage creative thinking, and offer students memorable experiences both in the audience and on stage. Whether you’re planning a curriculum-linked activity, an excursion to treat students, or seeking opportunities for performance, CTC can help you find the right fit.
Alongside performances, we host professional learning for teachers and provide pathways for students to connect with artists and arts workers.
EDUCATION CURRICULUM FOCUS
Our programming supports learning across the curriculum, including The Arts, English and HASS, as well as general capabilities and cross-curriculum priorities. We do this by creating learning connections with relevant curriculum, including:
- Early Years Learning Framework
- Australian Curriculum F – 10
- ACT BSSS subjects
- NSW NESA subjects
RESOURCES TO SUPPORT YOUR LEARNING EXPERIENCE
Our Education Season performances are accompanied by tailored Education Resources to ensure students get the most out of their visit to the theatre. These resources can help educators develop lesson plans, assessment tasks and whole units of work that support an excursion to the theatre.
PROFESSIONAL LEARNING ACCREDITATION
CTC regularly applies to the relevant statutory bodies for accreditation of professional learning hours through our education programs. Approved programs are listed on the website with the logo of the approving body and the number of approved hours.
OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENT PARTICIPATION ON OUR STAGES
CTC regularly hosts major student-based events and facilitates multiple learning programs for young people. These programs are designed to connect students with the opportunity to perform in our venue, meet professional arts workers and technicians, and to have a memorable and confidence boosting experience on the stage – whether they’re a seasoned performer or entering our doors for the very first time. Regular learning programs include:
- ACT UP! – a festival where students showcase original short works
- Work Experience Program – students with CTC staff to learn what it takes to produce theatre
- Cert III in Live Production & Services – learn from professional CTC and CIT staff to gain experience and qualifications in live production

How To Book
How To Book Your Tickets
All school bookings are made through our school bookings form. Click on the link below to select the show you’d like to book. Once you’ve filled out the form, you will hear from our box office team to confirm your tickets.
Some tips:
– Age recommendations are in the context of educational excursions. General public bookings may provide broader age recommendations.
– Get pre-approval from your school admin team for your excursion before you make your booking.
– Make sure you have enough adults (you’ll need 1 teacher / supervising adult per 15 students).
– Book as early as possible, as school bookings fill up fast!.

Performance Warnings
Canberra Theatre Centre makes every effort to communicate performance warnings through marketing, website information and at the time of booking at the Box Office. Unlike movies, theatrical performances do not have imposed age limits for adult content. It is up to the teacher to make judgements about age appropriateness. If you have any concerns, please ask at the time of booking.
Plan Your Visit
Parking
Coaches and buses can park at the front of Civic Square, between the Legislative Assembly and the Canberra Museum and Gallery (CMAG), which enables school groups to access CTC without crossing any roads. Smaller buses, vans and private cars can utilise this space as a drop off zone or use public metered parking off Constitution Avenue.
Arrive Early
School groups must arrive at least half an hour before the advertised performance start time in order to locate your seats and make use of the venue’s facilities. Note ongoing construction in the Canberra City area may impact travel time. Latecomers should call the Box Office on 6275 2700. We will endeavour to admit your group into the auditorium at a suitable break in the performance but in some cases, this may not be an option.
School Bags
School bags are not permitted in the auditorium. A free cloaking service is provided to look after your items, but it is much easier if large items such as school bags are left on the bus.
Lunch
Food and drink are permitted in the foyers but cannot be consumed in the auditorium. Packed lunches can be eaten on the steps leading up to the theatre, in Civic Square, or at Glebe Park.
School Visits Risk Assessment & Public Liability Insurance
Risk Assessment
A risk management document will be emailed to you upon making a school booking.
